JOURNEY of a
LIFETIME

Just how long would it take you to walk around the world? As you tackle this messy modeling problem, you will take a (virtual) journey across the globe. Each day, your activity will take place in a new famous location as you travel through South America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Along the way, you will learn about the math history of these cultures that are traditionally under-represented for their brilliant mathematical contributions.

SECTION 1 - South America
Reason about rate of change as adventures take you to the pyramids of Chichén Itzá, the lush Monteverde Cloud Forrest, and the mysterious ruins of Machu Picchu.

SECTION 2 - Africa
Build algebraic rules, graphs, and tables to describe the fascinating patterns of African storytelling, your dwindling budget in the exciting town of Nairobi, and your beautiful trip to the top of Table Mountain.

SECTION 3 - The Middle East
Use what you have learned about building algebraic rules to help merchants at the Grand Bazaar in Tehran, to make predictions about the sustainability of tourism to Petra, and to decide the winner of the amazing 100 mile ultramarathon through the deserts of Jordan.

SECTION 4 - Asia
Test your reasoning with one of the most famous puzzles in the history of mathematics and learn about equations and solutions in order to make predictions about the growing populations of China and India as you travel across the Asian continent.
